Ignorance Can Kill

Wow!!!... I just watched the remainder of "The Age of AIDS" documentary; it is amazing. It is suprising to find that so few people still do not understand the affects of the virus. In the documentary, reporters travel to India- a nation that finds sexual activity to very private and sacred. However, they suffered an infection rate of nearly 5 million. Additionally, the documentary revealed that the main threat of new infections came from Indian truck drivers and commercial sex workers. Moreover, the truck drivers would find prostitution as their only outlet for recreation. In fact, truckdrivers would often have sex with other male truck drivers when females were absent. When help came to educate the truck drivers of their risky behaviors concerning homosexual interaction, one of the drivers looked devistated. He was scared that he contracted the didease- he repeatedly said,"they never told me, nobody told me." Another very emotional scene was aired with the conclusion of the documentary. A little African girl just got tested for the virus; she was HIV positive. The doctor asked the little girl if she had any questions. Not understanding the implications of the disease, the little girl whispered in the doctor's ear, "Why am I positive?" The little girl was still smiling when she recieved the results. It's tragic.
