The Many Possibilities

As humans, we are aided by the ability to reason and formulate abstract ideas. Also, longer maturation periods, as seen in the human species, replace instinct with learned behavior. Because of this, humans are able to recreate what is natural and genetic to fit a standard of mental expressions. Abstract thought and the ability to reason promotes the idea that sex is not limited to people of the opposite gender. Rather, it becomes an expression of emotional attachments and physical attraction. Consequently, instinct (that which is normal/natural) is substituted by abstract thought. In this light, sexual behavior can also be learned and adopted. Accordingly, the increased portrayal of homosexual acts and relationships in the media may influence those intrinsically “straight” to learn and adopt homosexuality as their future sexual orientation- not to say that there is anything wrong with homosexuality.
